What an AI chat is for

You write to it like a person and it replies in seconds. What changes between them is answer quality, what you can upload (PDFs, photos, audio) and how much you can use for free.

  • Drafting and fixing emails, social posts or a report.
  • Summarising a long PDF or contract.
  • Study help with step-by-step examples.
  • Ideas, plans and lists.
  • Checking code or a spreadsheet formula.

What to check before you choose

  • Free plan: Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek and Qwen are the most generous; ChatGPT and Claude limit more at peak times.
  • Sources: if you need links to check facts, Perplexity cites every claim.
  • Files and memory: for long documents or projects, check the context window and project features.
  • Privacy: don't upload clients' personal data without checking each chat's data policy.

Prices: what is free and what is paid

All have a free version. The price of each chat's cheapest paid plan, what it includes and a link to its official site are in the AI chats comparison on this page.

How to start, step by step

  1. Start with the free version of ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
  2. Give context in your first message: who you are, what for and the format you want.
  3. Ask for changes instead of starting over: shorter, more formal, as a table.
  4. If you run out of messages every week, that is when to pay.

Frequently asked questions

What are AI chats?

They are assistants you write to in plain language that reply in seconds with text and, depending on the plan, images, voice or file analysis. This list compares 12: ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Gemini, Grok, Kimi, Meta AI, Microsoft Copilot, Mistral Vibe (Le Chat), Perplexity, Poe and Qwen Chat. The table on this page sums up what each one gives you for free, its cheapest paid plan, its models and what it does with your chats, linking to the official source.

What is the best AI chat?

There is no single best one for everything, and this comparison does not pick a winner. To compare the quality of the models behind each chat, see the DOA model ranking on the “AI models” page: it averages two external sources, Arena and Epoch AI, with no DOA opinion. Then choose the chat that gives you that model with the plan, price and privacy policy that suit you.

What is Qwen Chat and is it free?

Qwen Chat is Alibaba's AI chat at chat.qwen.ai. On 9 October 2026 it was free to use, the site showed no paid plans for the chat and the default model was Qwen3.7-Plus. Its privacy policy says it may use de-identified content and feedback for training, but not your raw inputs.

Gemini vs Claude: how do they differ?

Gemini is made by Google and Claude by Anthropic. Both have a free plan with limits that reset every 5 hours (Gemini also has a weekly cap). Gemini lists euro prices for Spain: Google AI Plus from €4.99/month and Google AI Pro at €21.99/month. Claude Pro costs US$20/month (US$17/month billed annually), excluding tax. On privacy, Claude lets you exclude your chats from training in its settings, and Gemini does not use them for training if you turn off “Keep Activity”. Data from their official sites, checked on 9 Oct 2026.

Are my conversations used to train the AI?

It depends on the chat and your settings. Mistral and Perplexity use them by default unless you opt out; ChatGPT and Grok have a setting to turn it off and their temporary or private chats are not used; Gemini uses them if “Keep Activity” is on. Kimi and DeepSeek require an email to opt out. Microsoft says the new Copilot app does not use your chats to train its foundation models. The “Privacy” column in the table links each official page.
